Matthew Leedy, Assistant Director

photoMatt Leedy was hired in 2014 as the first band director at the newly formed Baker Intermediate School, where he teaches the 5th and 6th grade bands, as well as general music. Here at GRC, Mr. Leedy assists with all planning and performance aspects of the marching band, pep band, and other after school ensembles. Before coming to Clark County, Mr. Leedy served for seven years as Director of Bands at Trimble County Middle and High School. While at Trimble, Mr. Leedy guided the band to success, placing several students in the Kentucky All State Bands, earning distinguished ratings with his concert bands, and advocating for music education in the small town of Bedford, KY.

Mr. Leedy holds degrees from the University of Kentucky (B.M.M.E.) and Morehead State University (M.M.E). While on scholarship at UK, Mr. Leedy was an active performer with the University Bands, including the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, and the amazing Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, led by Dr. Skip Gray. Mr. Leedy was a member of the Wildcat Marching Band for 3 years, until being promoted to Senior Assistant, a role he held during the 2006 Music City Bowl Year. He student taught at Scott County High School with the legend himself, Tom Brawner. Mr. Leedy is also a 2003 graduate of Lafayette High School.

Morgan Curtis, Student Teacher

18423858_10206772032417748_8557441434092020210_nMs. Curtis is the student teacher for the fall semester and served as the clarinet instructor for the band camp. She is a graduate of Bath County High school and is currently attending Morehead State University, where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. She has also served as clarinet instructor at Bath County High School (2014-2016) and Rowan County Senior High School (2017). Ms. Curtis was a member of the Morehead State University Marching Band for four years, and during her time at MSU, was also a member of the concert band, symphonic band, the clarinet ensemble, the Rose Wind Quintet, as well as multiple other ensembles. She was also a member of the women’s music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota, where she held multiple positions of leadership. Along with being on staff at multiple schools, Ms. Curtis also taught private clarinet lessons for two years.
